BUZIGAHILL

ABOUT THE BRAND
BUZIGAHILL is the first Ugandan brand to merge contemporary fashion, art, and politics on a global stage. In a defiant act called RETURN TO SENDER, Kampala-based BUZIGAHILL transforms and redesigns second-hand clothing into thoughtful, critical fashion, challenging the politics of consumption by returning these garments to their origins in the Global North.
ABOUT THE COLLECTION
Buzigahill, the fashion label by designer Bobby Kolade, presents its twelfth “RETURN TO SENDER” collection at Berlin Fashion Week. Both the label and its designs are a direct response to the negative impact of secondhand clothing on the textile industry in Uganda where the label is based. The looks are created from pieces sourced at the Owino Market, one of the largest hubs for secondhand textiles in Africa, and are reassembled using innovative upcycling methods. Stylistically, Bobby Kolade drew inspiration for the current collection from the 1960s and 1970s in East Africa. His starting point was old photos of his grandparents and their generation – their appearance, way of life, and immediate surroundings – as well as the feeling of nostalgia these images evoke, particularly among East African millennials. The new collection can be seen as a reclamation, exploring themes of ownership and forging connections between this older generation and contemporary fashion.
